LECA (Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate)

LECA stands for Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate.

Understanding the role of LECA in plant care is crucial. Plants absorb oxygen through their roots, and LECA, with its unique structure, provides pockets of airflow around the roots. This not only aids in oxygen absorption but also offers the perfect balance of hydration by slowly diffusing water into the plant roots, thereby preventing root rot.

How to use LECA for rooting cuttings:

  1. Pour 1 to 2 cups of LECA (depending on the number of cuttings) into a shallow container.
  2. Add 1/2 cup of water.
  3. Stick the cuttings into the LECA and allow them to grow.

Other uses:

  • Add a layer at the bottom of planters to reduce the risk of root rot, especially if the planter doesn't have a drainage hole.

Notes:

  • Rinse LECA before use.
  • Store LECA in a dry place.
